about
Originally from northwestern Pennsylvania, I'm a writer now based in northern Virginia. My first book, Your Wedding, Your Way: Destination Elopements, Intimate Ceremonies, and Other Nontraditional Nuptials, was published by Chronicle Books in February 2022. It's a deep dive into the history of the wedding industry and elopements, and a look at why couples are choosing to go small and celebrate their marriage in a way that feels true to them, is financially sound, and lacks the high levels of stress produced by 12 months of wedding planning.
Press coverage and/or appearances include Well+Good, NBC, the New York Post, VIP Alexandria Magazine, and "The Wedding Dish" podcast.
In 2020, I launched a related brand and website, Art of Eloping, which offers straightforward advice, planning tools, and real couples' stories for those who are planning an elopement.
From 2016-2018, I worked at Washingtonian magazine, DC's leading city mag,, where I started as an Editorial Fellow (aka fact-checker) and churned out quick articles for web along with compact articles for the print magazine's front-of-the-book section; moved into the Assistant Editor role and hired and managed Editorial Fellows (and oversaw their fact-checking); and finally became the Associate Editor covering all things health and fitness for both web (tight, SEO-heavy blog posts) as well as monthly longform articles for the magazine's "Lifestyle" section.
My freelance writing has appeared in Runner’s World, Pittsburgh Magazine, and Pittsburgh City Paper, and ALX Community, a coworking startup, on all things #howwework. An avid hockey fan, I profiled right winger Tom Wilson for the inaugural Washington Capitals 2018-2019 W Magazine on the heels of the team's first Stanley Cup win (let it be known that I root for the Pittsburgh Penguins).
I have a master's degree in nonfiction writing from the University of Pittsburgh and bachelor's degrees in both English writing and Psychology, also from Pitt.
When I'm not poking around on my laptop, I enjoy taking long walks and listening to "Smartless," expanding my repertoire of vegetarian soup recipes, and aiming to read one book a month. And, traveling!
